General Conditions

  • This program adjusts to your preferred dates
  • CHANGES: Whenever there are other reasons that justify it, Destinos Guiados - Eventos & Turismo, Lda. May change the order of the routes, modify the hours of visit to the places or replace any of the places of accommodation and catering provided by other of similar category; such changes will be communicated to the customer as soon as possible. If there are unforeseen circumstances that require you to suspend any itineraries, customers will always be entitled to reimbursement of the amounts paid
  • REFUNDS: after the program has started, no reimbursement is due for services not used by the client. Although for reasons beyond the control of Destinos Guiados, the non-provision of services provided in the travel program gives the customer the right to be reimbursed for the difference between the price of the services provided and those of the services actually provided, if it is not possible substitution by other equivalents
  • CLAIMS: they can only be considered valid, provided they are submitted in writing and within a period of no more than 10 days after the end of the provision of services. They can only be accepted as long as they have been participated to the service suppliers (carriers, hotels, restaurants and other local agents partners of Destinos Guiados) during the course of the trip or stay, requiring them the respective documents proving the occurrence

Payment

  • When booking, the customer must pay 20% of the total amount of the program.
  • The remaining 80% must be paid up to 7 days before the start date of the same.
  • If the reservation is made less than 7 days in advance, payment will be made in full upon confirmation of the availability of the service, by Destinos Guiados

Cancellation

  • More than 30 days: cancellation without penalty with the right to return the 20% made
  • Up to 7 days before start of program: 20% penalty
  • Less than 7 days: 100% penalty

Transport

Clothing and footwear

  • Should be comfortable and suited to a mountain town.
  • From November to March, clothing and footwear must be fit for wet and very cold weather.
  • In the remaining months of the year it is recommended to wear a sweater for the end of the day

1st day: Lisboa - Tomar - Guarda

Exit Lisboa towards Tomar, with a visit to the city of the Templars. Visit to the only fully preserved synagogue of medieval times still existing in Portugal. Built from the ground up in the 19th century purposely for the religious function, the Tomar Synagogue is a very rare example of medieval Jewish temples and Portuguese pre-Renaissance art.

Exit towards Guarda, the highest city in Portugal, located at 1056 meters of altitude and certified for having the "purest air" of the country. In this town with traces of human occupation since prehistory, visit the Cathedral, the historic center, the Jewish quarter and the main monuments of the city.

2nd day: Guarda - Linhares da Beira - Gouveia - Seia - Serra da Estrela - Manteigas - Guarda

Exit Guarda towards Linhares da Beira, a medieval village of the XII century, classified as Historical Village of Portugal that meets the ideal conditions of climate and relief for the practice of Paragliding. Walk through the streets of this village where the signs of the Jewish presence are discovered.
Gouveia - a mountain town that possesses a historical heritage with several Jewish vestiges and where you can see a wonderful panorama of the Mondego River valley and all the surrounding nature
Seia: gateway to the most imposing Portuguese mountain - Serra da Estrela - with a visit to the Museum of Bread
Lunch at the Museum of Bread
Torre da Serra da Estrela: climb to the highest point of mainland Portugal with a stop in quiet and inhospitable places, where the human being feels small before the imposing and beauty of the mountain
Manteigas: situated at the foot of the largest glacier valley in Europe, this village is known for its renowned textile industry and for the richness of its natural and cultural heritage that testifies to the Jewish presence in this village.

3rd day: Guarda - Sabugal - Sortelha - Vilar Formoso - Almeida - Guarda

Visit Sortelha, one of the most beautiful and oldest villages of Portugal, classified as Historical Village that keeps its identity unchanged until today

Exit towards Vilar Formoso with visit to the Museum Pole - Memorial to Refugees and to the Consul Aristides de Sousa Mendes
Exit towards Almeida, one of the most spectacular European examples of the defensive system of the XVII century known for its fortress in the form of a twelve pointed star and classified as Historical Village of Portugal
Return to Guarda

4th day: Guarda - Pinhel - Castelo Rodrigo - Penedono - Trancoso - Celorico da Beira - Guarda

Breakfast in Hotel
Exit Guarda towards Castelo Rodrigo, passing through Pinhel, the city "with more palaces per m2". Visit to the picturesque village of Castelo Rodrigo and its Jewish quarter located 820 meters high.
Exit towards Penedono, a medieval village where, at every step, traces of the Jewish and New Christian heritage are discovered, like ancient housing spaces, magical-religious symbols and myths and everyday legends.
Lunch in Penedono
Exit towards Trancoso, classified as Historical Village of Portugal, that still today is surrounded by walls of King D. Dinis period. With a Jewish presence before the XIVth century, Trancoso had the largest Jewish community in Beira Interior, where more than 500 Jews lived. Visit to existing Jewish heritage such as the house of the Black Cat or Lion of Judah, the inscriptions of the houses of the Historical Center, the Bandarra House Museum and the Interpretation Center for Jewish Culture Isaac Cardoso.

5th day: Guarda - Belmonte - Lisboa

Breakfast in Hotel
Exit Guarda towards Belmonte, "Land of Jews" that deserves prominence for the preservation of the Jewish tradition to the present day. Tour in a tourist train and entrance to the main places of interest.
Lunch in the first Casher hotel and restaurant in the country, certified according to Jewish law (upon availability)
Exit towards Lisboa for boarding.
